Tell Us Your Good Deed

I decided to spend the rest of my life committed to rehabilitating injured people. I have seen how an injury can psychologically effect someone and I chose to help people for the rest of my life. As an Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist, it will be my obligation to help people no matter what their background is to increase their quality of life. Accidents happen and people get hurt. It is important to have someone passionate and always smiling there by your side to make your life back to the way you want it to be.

Growing up I was always infatuated with my religion and decided to find ways to put it into my life. After I graduated high school, I decided to take a year off and moved to live in Israel for that year. While there I was able to volunteer and learned a lot about myself.

Every summer since I was a junior in high school I have devoted two weeks of my summer to volunteering as a camp counselor at Camp Sunshine in Maine. It is a camp for kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Camp Sunshine is my favorite place in the world; those families are some of the strongest people I have ever met in my life. Because the kids I have met there have given me the most eye-opening experiences of my life, I am now in school to become a PA to make a career out of helping children fight their battles against disease.

I am a residential director of a locked residential program for adolescent trauma victims. My daily role is to help these adolescents be more than their mental health diagnosis. I encourage them to say, "I struggle with cutting" rather than "I am a cutter." Changing their language is healing and powerful and has the power of transformation! They are incredible young adults with incredible futures and I'm honored to work with them.
