Tell Us Your Good Deed:
I volunteer on several nonprofit boards and helped organize several community blood drives.
Why are you participating?:

Labels can be both empowering but also limiting. Let's recognize them for the value they bring and not the restrictiveness they can engender.

Tell Us Your Good Deed:
Three years ago, I met a second year student from North High School at a Sister-to-Sister Conference. I was listening to a group of girls describe issues that they were struggling with. Afterwards, a 15 year old girl approached me to state that she was having a difficult time in her math class and was concerned about passing the mathematics portion of the MCAS that following spring. It was a serendipitous moment. I saw a spark in this young woman and knew she would be successful. We met weekly for 7 months, and she not only passed the MCAS, but got As and Bs in her math class. I continue to meet monthly with this remarkable young woman, who has faced many personal hardships. Being her mentor has enriched my life in many ways.
