I've been volunteering at the National Alliance on Mental Illness for the past 2.5 years as an educational speaker. We go into communities, schools, hospitals, etc and share our stories of recovery and resilience with mental illness.

Why are you participating?

Labels are so interesting to me, because it's so hard to put yourself in boxes, but also tells others about you that they may not know otherwise.

I helped an elderly woman whose mechanical wheelchair died. It was 85 degrees (F) out and she was trying to push it home. I not only gave her a ride home but put her chair in my SUV.

Why are you participating?

To show the world that everyone is equal. No one is better than anyone else, we are all unique.
